On the fourth day of their stay in Brazil, Joan asked the girls they have to get ready for a domestic flight via Mato Grosso. Mato grosso is known for its wild Great Forest. Through their reference travel book, map and guide Mato Grosso is popular among hunters and miners for gold. It is located in the western plateau. There was a story that area was once restricted to anybody, foreign or nationals and if ever you want to venture out there then you will need to be protected and armed.
Mato Grosso was once a native indian village. A dangerous place for some kind of adventure. It is well guarded probably because of its treasure that brings abundance of wealth in the form of gold and diamond. It was once known as the "gold rush area." They don't know or sure whether it's still is golden there. What's the rush the girls thought was the baseball and soccer games those people would like to get in through the channels. Springtime is a time when there's so much rushing hereto and there. Just like wild flowers wanting to spring out from the soil to get a glimpse of the mighty sun.
Joan informed the girls about the area before hand. They had a lot of informations and briefing was done accordingly. They are not stupid they know what they are up to.
As their small plane glides at the amazonian jungle deep down through the forest of mato grosso the climate has turned perfectly alright. Joan was happy and thought her experiment will yield fruitful. She is expecting only the best of the very best outcome.
Jenny and her baby stayed with her mom in Rio. Gardo and Arnel went with Jeaneth, Janice, Joan, plus their pilot and the tour guide who is a martial arts expert, a sniper named Mel Weatherlee. This expedition is one of a kind. It's more like expect the unexpected even if Joan knows some people back in Canada are already second-guessing about the result in advance.
The expedition crew managed to stay in one of the villages in Mato Grosso. It's not bad from what they heard. The native hut they were staying is close to the waterfalls. The cascading water proved like a music to Joan's ears but not for the men in their group. Multitude of birds humming everywhere. They have seen macaws and mynah.
"If I could only bring one of those macaws at home, " Jeaneth whispered to Janice.
"Maybe we could. But I think you have to pay extra at the custom."
Joan have all her apparatus ready for her experiment. Initial experiment in the middle of the great forest. She had the following equipments and materials: weather recorder, thermometer (to measure hot and cold temperature), barometer (monitors air pressure), anemometer ( measure the windspeed), hygrometer(to measure moisture), wind vane (measure wind direction), weather station, pH paper (to measure alkalinity and acidity), scissors, test tube, plastic bottles, ruler, funnel, pyrex, flask, tubes, maskin tapes, scotch tapes, etc. you name it she's got everything. She brought with her the essential necessary equipment and tools to have this experiment done with the purpose of only her and the girls knew plus the university.
