Grandma Olivia ushered Jenna to the chapel to pray, the rest of the elders followed and together, pray with them. Nobody wants to eat. Nobody wants to have supper but they all assembled this time at the table, sitting on bamboo chairs , staring at the food until they all get cold; when the men arrived without Loren in sight... Silence, long silence, nobody wants to talk, Jenna was distraught and frantic crying at her Mother Josephine beside her. Hours passed by...Grandma Olivia stand up and about to scold everyone but sudden strange noise, tired almost exhausted breathing of an animal, the sound of the twigs and branches of trees being broken, the steps become louder and louder. They all looked behind them and amazed of a beautiful horse, white as snow, its hair glitters and sparkle almost glows in the dark. It was a radiant creature. And Loren was riding this thoroughbred,  a mix -Arab thoroughbred!

The kid's face lightened up in awe of how the adventure of Loren up there in the tunnel and how he was able to compete with the white horse who was speeding as if in a race with the train. Loren's wife Jenna lovingly embraced her husband whose face, arms, hands and legs have bruises all over. Bianca, being a doctor and only with the right medication for his bruises treated Loren with care.

"You risk your life for that four legged creature!" How could you do that to yourself and to us?" Juanita scolded her son.

"Mother! I need this horse for my work at the farm." "This thoroughbred is great for racing but I have no choice but we need this horse anyway. "You need an animal you can use to travel in this island. We cannot go walk and run here all the time." Loren told his Mother.

It's true. If only buffaloes are faster and easy to get along with. Besides the horse has its defense for reliability, runs fast, strong and robust. It's endurance to long journey or travel to any parts of the island. Horse is patient and can serve his master faithfully.

Loren named his horse, "Spyro." Even the kids love the name.

"Spyro? I like the name Spyro!" Tamara said in excitement. For her it's another kind of game trivia.

Mila touched the horse's sturdy crest, shoulder and barrel. Stared at the hooves and flank and exclaimed, " this horse is quite extra ordinary!"

"You are lucky to have this horse. It must be a sought-after trophy horse! Poor owner losing his horse!" Jameson uttered with a hint of jealousy.

"Can I ride your horse once in a while when you're not using it for farming?" Cade asked Loren.

"Sure!" "But you know what's my plan?" Loren added that he wants to build a cart or sled that the horse can pull to gather live stocks and farm goods from the island and you kids can ride in there. Isn't that fun?" Loren laughed at the idea. All of them have  hearty laughter that only the birds, the chicken, the rabbits, the peacock, turkeys, the monkeys, komodo dragons, snakes and the many wild animals can hear.

The teens and children didn't wait for Loren to come out from the cave they hurriedly informed the elders of their find. They were screaming with excitement and thrilled to tell their story but what is fascinating about the headline is alarming including the date it was published.

"This couldn't be happening. This is not real." Olivia blurted out.

Everyone looked at the newspapers. They have copies of the news in Variety, Herald, New York Times, different magazines from different countries featuring the scope and scoop of the war in Italy. Then the news about the Death March. After the Mussolinis were deposed in 1943, the war World War II started. The Monarchy was abolished in Italy and then they keep an eye on the date of publication of that news which is Year 1960. All the news published in the newspapers are old.

"This can't be true!! Grandma said. We are only here at the island for about five years.

"Yeah, I think the news are surreal!" "It's impossible that the order of things gets complicated." Bianca said in a low tone voice. Not trying to argue. She was tired and sleepy from the night's vigil listening to the radio.

Jenna arrived at the group's circle only to find out that Loren's missing. She asked the girls and the boys who went inside the cave.

"What?! You went to the cave?" Grandpa yelled at them and scold them for their disobedience. "I told you not to there and you all disobeyed me."

Jenna started crying. The elders were nervous and trembling. Juanita and Elmo gripped with anxiety and about to cry . Elmo asked the men to go with him inside the cave to find his one and only son. Grandma Olivia told the girls to stay with her while they pray inside the chapel. Hours have passed by and no Loren and the men who went inside the cave to search for him haven't come back yet.

Amelia and Stephano and their children Joseph and Melinda cooked and served food at the table. They knew today was the longest day ever. The waiting game...

The conversation continues till dawn. Jenna was awake, asleep and then awaken again by the loud laughter of the kids. Though she's happy about the good news, her mind is on her pregnancy. She too would like her baby to see the light of day back in her hometown. Loren frowned at the idea.

Few hours passed by. The teens, the kids, and then Loren left the house. The elders are still listening to the radio broadcast at the chapel. They saw their grandparents sleeping, but Panfilo, Bianca, Juanita, Elmo, Arthur, Josephine, and Amelia are wide awake.

Armed with the same weapons: hunting gear,  long rope, complete with their outfit designed for spelunking they traveled to the route going to the cave. This time their plan is to wait for the train and go further where they can trace new result.

Joselito and Melinda tied the rope to the biggest tree close to the cave's entrance, the rest of the rope the teens have to use it going inside the cave. With more kerosene lamp and  flashlight  they can see clearly what's inside the cave. This time hundreds of bats were nestled upward the ceiling, there are stalactites and stalagmites. Stench odors, stinky smelly odor of birds and bats that the girls vomited uncontrollably. Tamara and Melinda, and Jolina preferred to be at the main entrance instead while Joselito went with the group.

"Be careful in there! There are slippery slopes there down the aisle." Loren warned them. "That's the reason why our hands are to have a grip on the rope." "Also watch for quick sand."

Frightened about those terrifying ordeal, the kids are more than careful, they are treading the other side of the cave with so many partitions or divisions. The cave has too many open doors. They should all be going in one direction. You have your mask use them so that the you can resist the odor. Then suddenly loud scream was heard behind them. Rosalee stumbled  on something slippery. Turned out there are  leeches, slugs and wild rats roaming that area. Despite of the hassles they continued their spelunking up to 35 meters. They heard the girls at the entrance yelled to them if they are okay. Then they echoed back that they are alright.

"Wait! Stop here!" Loren told the group. This time there is an air vent that air is coming through that dark zone. They lifted their kerosene lamp and shouted,  "Bingo! there's the railway track."

They waited for a while, minutes, half an hour passed by when they heard a rushing sound. The sound is quite different from the first train they saw the first time they've been into that cave. Before anyone could utter a word the train passed by them in such a quick swift force. That they were unable to stand up. They were like suspended and in awe. Then multiple pieces of paper were left behind coming from the train, slapped on their face, the rest of the papers were scattered on the ground. Tons of them that the railway track is heavy with debris.

"What the hell is that?!!! That really shocked me! " Eric shouted. Mila and Rosalee started picking up those papers one by one. The guys helped picked them up too when all of a sudden another strange swift entity came running towards them. It gallops and made such a rather mystifying sound and runs away quick flash as lightning. All they can see towards the railway track was Loren trying to catch the robust animal. Joselito, Eric, Joseph followed Loren but unable to run after them. They stopped and told, "It's okay! We can't outsmart the power of the  horse!" "It has four legs."

Tired and sleepy the kids went back where the girls are and tried to pick up some other papers on the track. Mila raised her kerosene lamp and read what's on it. "Oh my ! It's a newspaper!!!!"  "War is Over! It's really over!!!" They run towards the inside of the cave away from the tunnel, away from the track and meet the girls at the exit/ entrance of the cave and joyfully gave the newspapers to their elders at the chapel.

Loren was quite adamant. He doesn't know for sure if he'll be so excited happy or sad about the news that the war is over. There is that feeling of reluctance to accept that their fate is within the island but on the other hand wanting to know what's in another land aside from Italy. They are already accustomed to the life in the jungle. Everything's free and in orderly well balance according to the life they set upon. Nobody gets sick and nobody gets hurt. They don't have any enemy except if there are wild animals roaming their camp ground. Although they have weapons to use and prevent such attack. The climate seemed favorable for them also no need to complain and whine.

"Don't you miss your friends and other relatives Loren?" asked Mila.

Loren quickly answered, " you're all my friends here, close friends and relatives." The others who were left behind in Italy are acquaintance with no string attachment."

"Oh thanks for that." Mila and the young girls said with a smile on their face.

"My friends probably moved out of the land. They are wealthy enough to go abroad and left Italy for good instead of staying under the Mussollini's regime." Joselito said.

Mila missed her friends. The kids missed the good life of having more people at their home. Visitors who frequently enjoyed the tranquil sunny side of the vineyard. The workers at the winery who keep them laughing with their antic comedy rituals once in a while when they visit the workplace. They missed the electricity, the big swimming pool, the television.

"You have a bigger pool here. You have the blue ocean, the lagoon, and the river. " Loren continued explaining, " your television is in black and white and the reception is blurry." All you watch are silent movies, Walt Disney, and Charlie Chaplin. Tamara and Cade laughed at what Loren said because it's true.

Surprised! Shocked! Excited! All feelings of mixed emotions rattled them all. The elders: Bianca and Panfilo, Grandpa Gustavo, Grandma Olivia, Josephine, Arthur, Amelia and Stephano went direct to the chapel and serious discussion followed. Amelia brewed hot coffee and cocoa for the elders and boiled bananas for early breakfast. They need something to eat while they plan. The young ones led by Mila gathered round and then quietly went to the house of Loren and Jenna. They wondered why the young couple didn't even hear the bell rings. But they know they wont sleep this whole night of excitement and anxiety.

They all climbed above the tree house of the couple and knocked at their door to wake up Loren and Jenna. "Loren, wake up, wake up Jenna!" the kids yelled at the couple. It took few minutes before the door was opened.

"What's up kids?" "What's wrong?" Did you know that it's still dark of the night?" Loren told them scowling.

"Well we have something very important to tell you!" Jolina said.

"That's right, we wont be hear for nothing. This is really important for all of us," said Mila.

"What's that all about?" Jenna overheard the over-excited voice of the kids. Each one wants to be heard . Cade and Tamara are over-zealous enthusiastic about their approach yet reluctant to tell the group about their own perception of the "radio transmission." Jameson was not at the meeting that they cannot prolong the discussion in a balance way. Joselito and Jolina have mind of their own and they are very opinionated. Joseph and Melinda just nod most of the time and listen and sometimes appear to be listening to them. Rosalee and Eric have their chance to voice out what's inside their mind.

Then they all listened to Mila who told the whole story from the very beginning and how she feels what could be the best solution for all of them. While the elders conducted their own meeting at the chapel, the young ones have their own plan different from them. The news is a half-half good and bad news for them to think about. It requires deep critical thinking. To analyze what is good for them and what could be the fringe benefit if they move out from this exotic island and return to Italy. How they know for sure that the news is really "real" just from listening to the radio. Is that a good source of information? Is that radio broadcast a government owned or owned by the revolutionary movement? It could be 'corrupted" or propaganda. It could be a trap.

The young ones, teens and kids walked away from the elders. Jameson murmured as he walked away from Grandma Olivia. The reason why he was asking the Keeping's it's because he wants to present his new found project for Physics. He was seen going up the stairs above the tree house and continued his self study about theoretical particles.

The other kids and teens moved to a shady shelter under  coconut grove and they chatter for quite a while. They were curious about the Keeping's. But then knowing they are University professors their curiousity stop there and then have their jolly conversation about issues that please their attention. Teenage dreams, hobbies and ambition. What really their goals are once they finally moved out from the island. When the elders are finished with their meal, Tamara and Mila helped Amelia and Stephano cleaned the dishes, pots, pans and utensils. In between clean-up the two girls asked if Amelia is their aunt or just a servant. They were asked to call her aunt but she does all the cleaning and cooking in their household since they were toddlers.

Amelia quipped, "I'm just helping your family." "Nobody eats when nobody cook. No one will clean except me."

"What do you mean?" Mila asked again. She was confused.

Bianca and Amelia are sisters. It's just that Amelia is more responsible. She knows how to run the household while the sister works and study. Her work as a doctor is a constant studying. Doctors always have to update and upgrade their knowledge.

"You mean you are our real aunt?" Mila asked with much curiousity. Amelia didn't answer as if she was hard of hearing.

Rosalee and Eric gathered firewood. Melinda and Joseph cleaned the table and throw the garbage in the bin provided for non-food waste and food waste in a compost located farther away from the kitchen. Thirty feet away from their camp so that the smell or flies wont hamper their food supply. They make sure that cleanliness and orderliness is established so that the whole compound or site is not harmed. Everything should be well balanced in accordance with the surrounding.

Hours passed by. Then night time falls...

It was past 12 midnight when the Russo family was awakened by a loud scream. Once again the noise was coming from the Keeping's household.

"The war is over! The war is overrrrrrrrrrrrrr!" Josephine and Arthur shouted at everyone. Trying to wake them up, Arthur rung the bell a lot of times.

Louder and louder the bell rings )))))))))))))))))))

Arthur screamed and shouted, running and knocking at the doors of Bianca and her family, to the door of Olivia and Gustavo, door of Amelia and Stephano. Loud screaming of happiness can be heard in their area. The kids were surprised.

"How did you know that the war is over?" Mila asked them. Jameson and Joselito questioned the Keeping's how they know that the war is over?

"We heard the news on the radio!!!!!!" Arthur told them, his face filled with much happiness. The same happy feeling that Josephine shows on her beautiful face.

Long pause. Long silence. Different facial reactions gloom on the young ones' face. Hearing the word "radio" they could at least asked for help rescue them from the island. They are not happy. Not that kind of reaction they have nor the elders' reaction could have changed whatever inside their  mind. Surely young ones Vs. Old ones? They have different opinion that suits their own identity which is vital for their growth and strength.

Many weeks and several months have passed by and Jenna's tummy is getting bigger. She put on a lot of weight, she's getting fat. Some women who are pregnant keep themselves thin by not eating or just eating to sustain their body's needs not the baby's needs. But this a planned pregnancy unlike the others. Besides the parents, the in-laws, the whole clan are expecting a newborn for the whole clan to enjoy and cherish. So the feeding continues obviously.  Jenna feeds the unborn child with so much food. The elders, the young ones noticed how she gobbled up so much food and this time she was craving on young fresh coconut meat. The softer and tender side of the young coconut. She will throw the hard old coconut meat away from her. She's always hungry. Loren and the kids have to gather more extra food from the jungle and from the ocean to sustain their everyday meal.

One day Joseph asked, "how those food she eats everyday can fit in to her stomach?" Roar of laughter from the elders and other kids were heard. Good that Loren and Jenna didn't hear what Joseph said. They were too far away from where they at the table.

"Good for you the couple didn't hear what you said Joseph." That's very rude of you!" Olivia blurted to him in a very stern voice.

"What I'm so concern about is ..." Jameson paused for a while in deep thinking, " I haven't seen Signorina Josephine and Prof. Arthur for such a long time." They never join us at the table." Where are they?" Jameson asked again.

"Everybody looked at each other. That's right! "Why they never join us here at the table?" Mila inquired. Then she looked at Eric and Rosalee for their answer.

"Hey don't look at me like that," Eric told Mila. "I don't know what they are doing.

This time everyone were staring at Rosalee. Rosalee looked at them and said, " They are always busy." She said with a wry smile.

"Busy with what?" Mila asked again.

Rosalee quipped, " Writing!!!!" They are busy writing. I don't know what it is. It's a different language. I cannot understand."

Olivia butted in and told the kids to lay off the two kids: Rosalee and Eric,  and mind their own business. Which the young ones hinted yeah it's not their business to ask so many questions as if it's a form of interrogation or something and they apologize for their trespassing.

The manual spinner and weaving machine are made to easily spin the "wool" coming out from the many angora rabbits. The elders have so much fun producing hundred yards of yarn from this kind of special fur. They are shiny, smooth and fine materials. They can weave a lot of important fabric from this angora yarn. They can knit and crochet from its fabulous yarn and made them into handmade booties, toque, gloves, scarf, and many other uses of yarn and strings. The fur of angora rabbits almost look like mink. They can eventually create sweater and coat.

Many months have passed by the jungle of Verona. They call it a Verona Jungle according to Grandpa and Grandma's suggestion. The young ones followed what their oldest advice so that there'll be no fight amongst them. They are peacefully satisfied with their new life as whatever the case maybe.

Mila, Tamara, Rosalee kept themselves busy rafting and gathering pearls from the ocean. The fresh water pearls they gather and collect to make bracelets and necklaces. The boys tend to their hunting and gathering food from the jungle and keep themselves busy by attending to their live stock animals: goats, turkey, chicken, and rabbits.

Then the right time comes. Jenna got pregnant. The whole clan got busier than ever before. Loren was the most busy-body that you could ever imagine. He occupied himself with hunting, fishing, boating and snorkeling diving for seafood for the whole clan's everyday source of food.

The whole clan made a family journal, a handwritten daily accounts of their family life. They record almost everything, their agenda, their work, family history and the FAMILY TREE or ANCESTRY is recorded including their occupation when they were in Italy years ago. In that book or journal records their WORK as follows:

The rolling fur balls? They are jumpy chubby wild angora rabbits. Dozen upon dozen of them running around the lagoon. Loren advised the kids to be careful because they might bite them. They are wild, not ordinary rabbits and their species are extra ordinary, bigger than normal. Each one weighs at least 5 lbs. to 11 lbs. Tamara caught the first angora rabbit, the one she keeps chasing. White hairy creature and a little tame. Its hair is soft and snuggly like a big white  cotton ball. It tries to escape but she held her body so tight never wanting it to escape. Next it was Cade and Eric who caught the second and third fur balls err, angora. Cade got hold of a brown and white color hairy angora while Eric chased and caught a greyish white angora. They all have big red eyes and fluffy ears wiggling their funny but cute noses. There are so many of these angora rabbits running wildly on the grass  Loren and Jenna joined the kids catch them one by one. They all jumped, they slide and had so much fun picking them one by one with their bare hands. Later they got tired and got a big net to have them enclosed once and for all.

"Hurray! hurray!!!!! " Cade shouted. "We've got them all!" Yeheyyyyy!" How happy the whole group of kids. The elders were so happy with their find. "Where those angoras came from?" Grandma Olivia," asked them.

"Grandma they all just appeared on the grassland like fur balls." Maybe they come out from the cave. Who knows?" Jenna said.

They gathered about 71 of these chubby angora rabbits with beautiful hairy fur. According to grandma Olivia they shed so much hair and their thick fur or hair is good as wool. How happy she is when Grandpa Gustavo and Panfilo made another manual weaving machine after all those rabbits were put inside the cage. But of course a spinning machine is first required to make the threadlike yarn from those hair. Their hair is so smooth and Olivia knew already what she can produce from those shiny, smooth hairy fur. She brought with her set of knitting tools and crochet instruments.

Indeed the island has lots to offer for their creative minds. They need something to do and keep their minds busy while being stranded there at the island, especially her and Gustavo. They are already old and they want to have a good life and peace of mind. Gustavo is a retired US Navy, a mechanic. He hailed from Italy, from the city of Verona. Olivia and her family also hailed from Verona. Olivia is a retired chemist by occupation. They want to make the island another Verona if God permits. How they can accomplish a big task being stranded there for years is unknown to them They have a big boat but the amount of fuel, the gas is not enough for the next voyage. For the meantime with equally powerful thinker in this clan whose occupation from their homeland is unequal in that period of time.

The next day, the whole clan gathered round to help the couple, Loren and Jenna find their love nest. They will build them a new home. Grandpa Gustavo suggested that it's best for them to nestled closer to the lagoon so that they can also guard the nearby cave. The couple knew why Grandpa is so meticulous and worried about that cave. They cannot argue with him. Besides being near the lagoon is quite splendidly awesome. The coolest water from the lagoon is just within their reach. The cooler breeze from the forest is felt. The amazing view of the bamboo plantation, the clean, clear blue lagoon  and rows of birch trees > is just a pleasant way of saying that's where paradise is.

Within span of barely eight hours and with all of them having  the right tools for carpentry their love nest is done! It's truly amazing! How happy the newlyweds that they start to hoist up their household wares and other important items and stuff for their first home. Home they have is hundred feet away from the in-laws. They made a bucketbell that they can use to call each other for errands or for emergency. They can hit the bucketbell with a stone or tap it with a big metal spoon to give them a shout or vice-versa. They can hit their bucketbell too where they at to call Loren or Jenna if they want something from them.

Their home is nestled on top of the big sequoia tree, mountain view and styled like a tower. Three storry tower made from sturdy bamboo poles and wood from pine trees and birch. From uptop they can see almost everything, the verdant valley. The foliage is almost radiant and there are more yellows and orange color. But of course there are more greenery on the other side of the mountain and hill close to the river.

Months have passed by the island. Jenna and Loren were awaken by roar of laughter and screaming  from the young teenagers downstairs on the ground. They looked out at the window to find out what they are busy running after as if chasing so many rolls of white balls on the grass. And they are moving so quickly as fast as they could.

What could be those rolling fur balls?

The newly weds: Loren and Jenna continued unwrapping their gifts at the wedding reception.

The Torres family gave Loren and Jenna live animals: 12 goats, 2 healthy turkeys, and 2 chicken (1 rooster and 1 hen). A sack of taro roots and 1 sack of cassava roots.

The Russo family gave Loren and Jenna the following:
A long dug-out canoe with resemblance to the dragon boat that can carry 10 people. Along with  two paddles. This special boat is made by Panfilo and has special carvings on it. A long strand of fresh water pearls which can be made into lovely necklace and bracelets, set of pots and pans, bow and arrow, and bamboo wares,  knives, plates and tumblers.

Grandpa Gustavo and Grandma Olivia gave the couple 10 meters of jusi fiber fabric, silverwares, 2 baskets filled with mandarin oranges, and the Holy Bible.

The Keeping family had chosen to give the newlyweds 12 meters of silk fabric, 1 pound goat cheese, two bottles of fresh goat milk, ground coffee beans, basket full of mangoes and lemons. Dried fish and smoked salmon, champagne, mosquito net, blanket and 2 pillows and bamboo bed.

From Amelia and Stephano: A basket filled with freshly handpicked guava and star apples, a basket of pineapples, 2 bamboo chairs, and a bamboo table.

After all the gifts were revealed, Loren and Jenna thanked the whole party and they both each gave a warm speech which made the young ones so impatient. Jolina stand up immediately and turned on their phonograph to play an Italian march song and other music to the delight of the old ones. The whole family and clan savour the day filled with laughter, gifts, lavish food , drinks and music good to the ears dancing square dance and non-stop polka.

The couple's incredible stylish wedding in the heart of the jungle thousand  miles away from civilization, a beautiful   wedding and reception from sunrise to sunset finally is over at about 10 o'clock pm.
