Autumn Rose - Page 19

Sixteen hours passed since Marie and the two dogs had an outing. Marie woke up refreshingly new and had her firs cup of hot brewed coffee, out in the terrace together with Manix who keep an eye on her. Yeah that dog keeps staring and its mannerism is simply interestingly almost human. She smiled and stared at something else. She moved towards the handrail of the azotea and grabbed the telescope mounted or custom built on the wooden floor. She had the lens focused on the light house. She noticed crowd of people in that area and wonder what they are doing there. Is there a festival or ceremony that she was not aware of?

Then here comes Remix approaching her with a newspaper in its mouth. She gave the doggie a tender pat on its fur and said, "thank you Remix you're such a nice dog."

While holding on to the paper Marie had the front page first and read the upper headlines. Too many headlines. The controversial ones on the upper part of the paper down to the non-essential news. Then suddenly -----
Marie exclaimed in disbelief, " Oh no! What happened? Is she that woman? You mean she was murdered?" No, this is not true."

The newspaper's headline about the woman wearing red jogging pants and red and white hoodie sweater was found dead.

Still couldn't believe the news, she turned on the television set at the living room to find out if its really true or not. It was just a slight breaking news and details were not announce. Further investigations are going on. Then commercials followed and the news was cut off right immediately.

Marie went to work with a heavy heart. She doesn't know the person who died but she felt certain kind of sadness and asked herself why would somebody do something foolish and why she was killed? Too many questions in her mind that she didn't notice the bouquet of roses on her table until Martha teased her.

"Hey Marie, who's your secret admirer? " Aren't you not gonna open the card to know who brought the red and pink roses?" Martha Sybill asked her with a smirked on her face, Marie stared at her blankly.

"Oh, is that for me?" Marie quickly replied. Are you kidding me? Who will give me those roses? It's not even my birthday."

Martha just said she doesn't have a clue that's why she wants her to open the card. It was a brown envelope with a golden embossed R.S.V.P. She reluctantly open the envelope and see a white paper inside. Only the direction or venue in it.

Marie thought it was a joke. Somebody is making fun of her. Martha asked what's inside which Marie answered, "Nothing."

Martha looked at her thinking that Marie is mad at her. She moved out of her room and had conversations with other co-workers. Marie heard them laughing. She continued to work despite the bad news this morning and went home, watched TV and the news about the woman was in the headline once again. This time initial autopsy was revealed.

Not contented with the news , Marie went to see the pathologist doing the autopsy for the victim of such vicious crime. What she was curious about is that the manner of how she died. She wants to know in details, the complete information from the pathologist. Reluctant but cannot say no to Marie, the examiner showed the naked body of the victim at the morgue. Since it was already frozen and the autopsy is done all she can do is look at where all those bite marks are. Looks like the victim lost so much blood.

Real scary alright. The scariest of all?

The pathologist cannot rule out if the suspect is human.
