Our group rented two Winnebago. Each Winnebago can fit in 5 people. It also has a sleeping area designed for five. It has all the comforts of everything away from home. It has a kitchen nook, a stove and an oven, microwave. It has a small portable television. Great I wont miss the news and sports. Fully equipped with important electronics and emergency kit. The best part? It has a bathroom. There is a shower! Whew! What an awesome vacation we'll be having on the way. Don't you think so?
Seated on our van are : Mateelda, Mara, Justin, Claire, and Vivianne. The van allows 7 passengers. Although some of the crews stayed at the Winnebago. Win 1: Robert, Harry, Relly and Trekky. Win 2 : Romy,Imee, Athena, Jonathan and his wife Amber. We're in a convoy type tour huh.
We're supposed to have a domestic flight but somehow it was cancelled. The booked flight was deleted by error in the airline's ticketing office. Besides there is one in our group who is very afraid of flying. I wont tell you who that person is.
Anyway, the Winnebago that we rented is affordable. Great price offer. Totally incredible! And the win is new and cozy. Clean and air conditioned. It also has a compartment for mountain bikes and canoes or rafting boat.
We reached the mainland via ferry that can carry any kind of terrain vehicles. From the main city to the interior part of British Columbia is stubbornly hot especially when our convoy reached the Cache Creek. The area is ruggedly mountainous and the land is kinda bald and dry like as in a deserted area. Looks like Arizona with its feature. Hot and humid. What can you expect? It's summer!
A long railway is evident on the slope of the mountain and here comes the fast-tracking train passing along the steel rails. The historic railways that the thousands of Chinese built in 18th-19th century to load imported goods from Asian countries to other parts of Canada.
The travel was smooth and without any barrier whatsoever. It's really good to have a map and if you know how to read it then you don't need to ask anybody where to go. What is the next block or inter section. You own the road and you can get to your destination right away. Well it's just a straight line. From Vancouver City to > Cache Creek> Williams Lake> Quesnel then turn right to> Barkerville.
At summertime Barkerville opens at 8 am. The town has 125 historic buildings, theatres with live performances and merchants wearing uniquely 18th century costume.
Eight hour journey from the small island to the main island and connecting cities. Not bad! It would only take us one hour by plane. However we did enjoy the sight-seeing along the way. So it's really worth it.
We arrived at the historic village of Barkerville at about 5 pm. The weather is favorable for us to roam a little bit. We parked our van and winnebago(s) in a trailer park with security guards. It is located five minutes walking distance from the cental Barkerville area.
Mateelda and I checked everyone if they're alright and asked them what they want for supper. Whether we'll dine at the area or at A&W's.
Unanimous decision. They all want to have burger and fries instead. I think everyone's over fatigued from the long journey. 8 hours of travel is hard on our butt. Though we had frequent stop along the way. Open skies, wide open spaces...even if the roads are concrete and well maintained. Ah, it was their first time to have long driving and they are not used to it. That's why! That I can understand. Can you?
